The Amount of Sleep You Get Is Affecting Your Brain

How much sleep are you getting each night? If it’s too much or perhaps too little, both of these may be contributing negatively to your ability to think clearly, according to a new study.

Insufficient sleep was defined as sleeping less than four hours a night while ten hours or more a night was deemed excessive. With that in mind, what’s the ideal number of hours? Seven.

The study comes from Peking University Clinical Research Institute and it’s worth noting that although the study doesn’t outright prove that too much or too little sleep causes problems, it does indicate that an association may exist.

Sleep is vital, per the National Sleep Foundation, as it permits the body and mind to regenerate or undergo a “reboot” of sorts. The correct amount of sleep also allows you to remain healthy and can help with illness prevention.

The brain will experience issues with proper function if sleep is inadequate, which impairs focus, critical thinking, and memory processing.

The processes that underlie these connections, however, remain clouded. Inflammation may probably be linked to inadequate sleep, according to the study.
